Edges

Arcane Edges

Arcane Background – Mage or Shaman

Requirements: Novice
Your hero has the ability to use Sorcery and Conjuration to affect the world around him. Mages cast spells through technical know-how and view magic as just another form of science. Shamans cast spells through intuition given to them by their patron totem spirit.
When selecting this Edge, the hero chooses 10 Power Points worth of spells that he can cast.

Banishing Focus

Requirements: Novice, Arcane Background (Mage or Shaman)
The hero is particularly attuned to the physical world and gains a bonus to banish spirits to the Astral. He gains a +1 bonus to Conjuring checks made to banish spirits.

Casting Focus

Requirements: Novice, Arcane Background (Mage or Shaman)
The hero is particularly adept at manipulating the energies of magic. He gains a +1 bonus to Sorcery checks made to cast any spell.

Channeling Focus

Requirements: Novice, Arcane Background (Mage or Shaman)
The hero is particularly adept at redirecting the dangerous energies of spell manipulation. He gains a +1 bonus to Spirit checks made to resist Drain.

Spell Focus

Requirements: Novice, Arcane Background (Mage or Shaman)
The hero has an affinity for a particular spell. He gains a +2 bonus on Sorcery checks made to cast or resist drain for one spell. This Edge may be taken multiple times, each time applying to a different spell.
This bonus does not stack with those from the Casting or Channelling Focus edges.

Spirit Focus

Requirements: Novice, Arcane Background (Mage or Shaman)
The hero has an affinity for a particular type of Spirit (eg: Fire Elementals or Spirits of Man). He gains a +2 bonus on Conjuring checks made to Summon or Banish that type of Spirit. This Edge may be taken multiple times, each time applying to a different type of Spirit.
This bonus does not stack with those from the Banishing or Summoning Focus edges.

Summoning Focus

Requirements: Novice, Arcane Background (Mage or Shaman)
The hero is particularly attuned to the Astral world and gains a bonus to summon spirits to the Physical Plane. He gains a +1 bonus to Conjuring checks made to summon spirits.

Arcane Background – Adept

Requirements: Novice
Your hero uses magic to improve his physical body.
When selecting this Edge, the hero chooses 10 Power Points worth of adept abilities. Unlike spellcasters, Adepts can only use their Powers on themselves.

Background Edges

Alternate Identity

Requirements: Novice
The hero has another identity, airtight with background, job history, computer records, official documentations, etc. This lets the hero operate under an alias that cannot easily traced back, since everything checks out for all but the most persistent snoop.
When others make an Investigation or Streetwise roll to find information about a character with this
edge (such as Investigate rolls to perform criminal background checks or Streetwise rolls to locate the character), apply a -2 penalty to the roll.
This Edge may be taken multiple times, each time giving the hero a new identity.

Blandness

Requirements: Novice
This character blends into any crowd. He is average in height, weight, and appearance, and has a distinct lack of distinguishing physical characteristics or mannerisms. Anyone attempting to describe the hero cannot come up with anything more precise than “he was kinda average.”
Individuals attempting to shadow or physically locate the character through social means or in even slightly crowded settings receive a -2 penalty on all tests made during such attempts. The modifier does not apply to magical or Matrix searches.

Cyber Upgrades

Requirements: Novice
Through influence, sponsors, favors, shrewd savings, hard-core scrounging, stealing, cheating, or just plain begging, the hero gains up to 25,000¥ in bio/cyber modifications.
The resource does not have to be fully spent at character creation, and leftover nuyen represents favours that can be called in to install new gear. This value can also be supplemented by real nuyen gained at character creation.
This edge may be taken multiple times, but may only be taken during character creation.

Erased

Requirements: Novice
Better than SINless—the character with this quality officially doesn’t exist and never did; someone or something actively works to remove her traces from the system. Maybe it’s an elite hacker who owes her a favor or an AI she befriended, but the end result is that her data trail and records vanish from all but the most secure systems shortly after being entered. Criminal SINs and unwanted data disappear within a week.
Obviously, the eraser will preserve any data the character wishes preserved and that is vital for her to function in society. Note that vanishing data may prove an unwanted complication if the character is in custody or doing prison time (the Man may “forget” she is there).

Totally Erased

Requirements: Novice, Erased
The agent responsible for the hero’s absence from the Matrix is even more efficient and thorough. Unwanted data disappears within 24 hours, and even regular SIN, personal information and undesirable credit data are affected.

Combat Edges

Expert Fighter

Requirements: Novice
Your hero has studied and practiced boxing, street fighting, or martial arts. You are not considered an Unarmed Defender when engaged in melee with armed opponents. Your unarmed damage also increases to Str+d4.

Professional Edges

Hacker

Requirements: Novice, Smarts d8+, Hacking d8+, Knowledge (Matrix) d6+, Knowledge (Programming) d6+
You do more than just interact with the Matrix. You are its master. Able to rewrite virtual reality to suit your purposes, you can also affect the real world indirectly by hacking communications equipment, remote devices and even people. Indeed, anything with a network connection is prey to your skills.
You gain a +1 bonus to Hacking rolls in Virtual Combat. Additionally, you gain a +2 bonus to Investigation and Streetwise rolls when doing research through the Matrix.

Wastelander

Requirements: Novice, Vigor d8+, Notice d6+, Survival d8+, Tracking d6+
Life amid the toxic wastes, deserts, and city ruins – places where you’re lucky to find a hotspot and civilization might be days away is only for the heartiest souls – people like you. Like many wastelanders, you might be running away from something in your past, or be a scavenger rummaging through the ruins of coastal cities now sunk beneath the rising ocean tides.
You gain +2 to Survival skill tests in hostile environments, and +2 to Fatigue rolls from hazards. You also add two choices of gear or weapons of up to 1000¥ credits in market value each to your possessions.

Weird Edges

Cyber Tolerance

Requirements: Novice, Spirit or Vigor d8+
You are more resistant to the intrusion of bio/cyberware on your body than the average person. You add +1 to your Essence rolls. This Edge may be taken once per advancement, each time gaining another +1 to Essence rolls.
